A spirits aficionado who discovered Scotch when he was in the military. He began his collection in the 80's and at the same time began looking for more exotic Scotch tastings. He researched all the distillery locations in Scotland and became particularly interested in "Silent Stills", along with anything else that caught his eye. He amassed 1100 bottles, sourced from the LCBO, independent distributors in Canada and USA, independent bottlers and distilleries in Scotland, and retailers in the USA. He would have “Whiskey Weekends” at his country house and invite an eclectic mix of drinkers to sample any whiskey they desired which were all displayed in my “Whiskey Room”, which over the years became a coveted ticket. It is a change in lifestyle that is bringing these spirits to auction.
Situated just north of thre Speyside region border, Glenglassaugh is an interesting single malt. So interesting in fact, that it proved difficult for blenders to marry with other whiskies, and it closed down in 1986, deemed surplus to requirements in the era of oversupply in the whisky industry. With the evolution of the single malt market in the years that followed, the distillery made a surprise comeback in 2008 when it was revived by a group of private investors. Releases from both sides of its 22 year hiatus are very well regarded. Cask 2893. Bottle 208/217. Bottled 5.6.98. Gift box with 50ml mini. This bottle was distilled on 5th June 1967, within Signatory Vintage's Silent Stills range, which showcases Scotland's finest discontinued single malts. Glenglassaugh, has now since resurected! One of 217 bottles drawn from cask #2893. This is bottle #208. 55.8% ABV. Silent Still.
