All lots are located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Confirmation of pickup or delivery of Iron Gate Commercial Auction winnings must be made within 60 days of auction close. Thereafter, your winnings will be subject to storage fees, including a $75 setup, subsequent $5.00/case/month and $1.25 per bottle fee for inventory services. If no contact has been made within two years, auction winnings will be considered abandoned.
It is the responsibility of the buyer to make all arrangements for insuring, packing and removing the property purchased and any assistance by the Auctioneer, or the employees of, agents or contractors in packing and removal shall be rendered as a courtesy and without any liability to them. The Auctioneer shall not be liable for any errors or omissions or damage caused by packers and shippers, notwithstanding the fact that the Auctioneer may have recommended such shippers or packers to the purchaser.
This consignor grew up among the vineyards in the Niagara region and has fond memories of eating grapes off the vines at her friend’s family farm. It was during her 20s that she learned to appreciate wine, travelling through France, Italy and eastern Europe for business. In her 60s she began to collect wine seriously, some shipped to her by business associates and others purchased from wine merchants and collectors. The bottles have been meticulously stored in a custom designed wine cellar and were then moved into 2 temperature-controlled wine cabinets.
The score for 1970 Chateau Lynch Bages Pauillac is 91 from Robert Parker and the tasting note - It is interesting that this was the next vintage tasted in the vertical tasting, and I am not surprised given the mediocre decade of performances by Lynch Bages. Only the 1975 stands out, and that wine seems only good when compared to modern day successes. The 1970 is an old style Lynch Bages with plenty of dry tannin in the finish. Compellingly aromatic, it offers aromas of cedar wood, spice box, tobacco, earth, black currants, and new saddle leather. Spicy, concentrated, and burly, with mouth-searing tannin, this big, thick wine is a terrific example of Lynch Bages made in an older style. It will continue to last for 10-15 years, but look for it to become increasingly austere and attenuated.
