This Ontario based consignor is a lifelong wine enthusiast who began building his collection in the 1970s. Despite humble beginnings, he developed a deep appreciation for wine early on, especially French vintages. Over the years, he amassed hundreds of bottles and traveled with his family to wine regions around the world to explore the people, land, and craft behind each bottle. In every home, he built a wine cellar maintained at 11–12°C with stable humidity. A personal touch: he always covered the floor in small pebbles to help prevent bottles from breaking if dropped. Now, after decades of collecting, he is ready to share many of these exceptional wines so others can enjoy and appreciate them as he has.
The producer note for 1975 Chateau Cheval Blanc St Emilion - Until 1835, the Cheval Blanc vineyard was an integral part of the Figeac estate. Sold in two stages, during the 19th century, to the owners of Château l'Evangile, the Fourcaud-Lussac family, the estate was created as such and enlarged by his descendants who remained the owners until the end of the 20th century. ° century. In 1998, the Albert Frère - Bernard Arnault duo bought the shares of the Société Civile du Cheval Blanc, but the continuity remained, in the person of the Director, Pierre Lurton and his team. In 2009, the LVMH group bought 50% of the shares from Bernard Arnault's personal holding company. Since 2011, vinification has taken place in the new cellar designed by the architect Christian de Portzamparc a vast, bright and ecological space that Pierre Lurton dreamed of. Cheval Blanc was confirmed as a Premier Grand Cru Classé A in the 2012 classification, and thanks to the annexation of the neighboring Château Tour du Pin, 1.40 ha have been added to its land base. With a very specific terroir, the vineyard is located on the edge of Pomerol. The grape variety is atypical for the Saint-Emilion region, with a higher proportion of Cabernet Franc than Merlot. Despite a slight qualitative shift in the 1960s and 1970s, Château Cheval Blanc remains, unbeatable since 1954, on the top step of the classification of Saint-Emilion wines, with the rank of 1er Cru Classé A. Additional scores for the wine in this lot - CellarTracker 92 points .
