A spirits aficionado who discovered Scotch when he was in the military. He began his collection in the 80's and at the same time began looking for more exotic Scotch tastings. He researched all the distillery locations in Scotland and became particularly interested in "Silent Stills", along with anything else that caught his eye. He amassed 1100 bottles, sourced from the LCBO, independent distributors in Canada and USA, independent bottlers and distilleries in Scotland, and retailers in the USA. He would have “Whiskey Weekends” at his country house and invite an eclectic mix of drinkers to sample any whiskey they desired which were all displayed in my “Whiskey Room”, which over the years became a coveted ticket. It is a change in lifestyle that is bringing these spirits to auction.
Glendronach was built in 1826 by James Allardice, and has been in the hands of some of the great distilling dynasties including the Grants of Glenfiddich and Wm. Teacher. The Grants and Teachers were early champions of the single malt category, and distillery bottlings of Glendronach were produced for most of the 20th century until it was mothballed in 1996. The distillery was revived in 2002 and has since become one of the most sought after single malt brands amongst connoisseurs and collectors alike. Serge at WhiskyFun.com. 91 points! This Glendronach was distilled in 1975 and matured for 22 years before being bottled in 1998 by Signatory Vintages. Cask 1686. Bottle 80/268. Bottled 14.5.98.
