This Quebec consignor was introduced to the world of wine by one of the province’s most important private collectors, Champlain Charest. M Champlain shared his passion and taught him to invest in value wines. He began his own collection in 2010, and purchased all of the bottles through the SAQ, SAQ Grand Connaisseur and Champlain Charest wine cellar. Prior to arriving at Iron Gate, the wines were stored in a wine cellar with the temperature regulated at 14C-15C and humidity controlled to 70%.
The score for 1978 Chateau Mouton Rothschild Pauillac is 92 points from Wine Spectator and the tasting note - After a challenging start, fantastic conditions late in the season rescued the 1978 vintage from possible disaster, leading many to call it the "Miracle Vintage". The relatively discreet first nose displays aromas of black fruit, blackcurrant, and leather with a mineral cast, while more intense, oaky notes appear on airing, together with a touch of mocha. The clean and well-structured attack displays a lovely, acidulated freshness that heralds high-quality texture. Powerful and smooth tannins support a mid-palate of surprising volume and depth, leading into a powerful and elegant finish.
