The wine in this collection comes from an Ontario based cellar established in 1976. The owner has always had an appreciation of wine and he became more knowledgeable after reading A Wine Tour of France as a young adult. He built a cellar in his home and started to purchase wine for consumption as well as for collecting. Much of the wine came from the LCBO and their auction but he also purchased some in Alberta where he fondly remembers buying a 1967 Chateau D’Yquem. He doesn’t drink wine as much these days and decided to put some of his collection up for auction so that others have the opportunity to enjoy the wine he has collected over the years.
Domaine Robert Ampeau, located in the region of Puligny-Montrachet in Burgundy, is currently run by Michel Ampeau, after the recent and unfortunate death of his father, Robert, in 2004. The domaine holdings cover about 10 hectares of vineyard, including land in 10 Premier Crus, 4 of which are in Meursault, while the other are scattered around Puligny, Beaune, Blagny and Savigny. Wines from Domaine Ampeau are not released for sale to the public until they are considered truly ready,a practice that seems to border on financial suicide. But that's what they do at Ampeau and in accordance with Robert’s ethos, this shows respect for the product. Despite this fact, when the wines are ready, they are still notable for their youth and clarity.
