The scores for 1981 Bollinger R D Extra Brut Champagne - Wine Spectator - 96. The rating for 1981 Bollinger R D Extra Brut Champagne is 91 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - The only R.D. to be released in a year when there was no La Grande Annee, undergoing 17 years ageing on its lees. It took considerable time for the malic acid to decrease, finally seeing light of day in 1999. Poured from magnum, is has a moderate straw colour, a well-defined, surprisingly youthful nose although perhaps with less complexity than the 1985 R.D. Orange-blossom, a touch of brioche, Clementine, a little apricot – very ebullient fruit. The palate has crisp green apple on the entry, a faint hint of tinned mushroom towards the elegant, almost understated finish. Drinking perfectly now. Drink now.
