This consignor’s wine journey began in the early 1980s, when quality wines were still reasonably priced. Regular visits to the LCBO Vintages shop in Sherwood Forest, Mississauga—now closed—provided access to weekly tastings and a diverse selection. The collection grew through purchases from the LCBO, wine agents, specialty shops in BC, the U.S., Australia, and directly from wineries during travels. All bottles were stored in a refrigerated, temperature- and humidity-controlled wine cabinet to ensure optimal preservation.

This is the tasting note for 1982 Chateau Leoville Barton St Julien from Robert Parker - With massive, huge concentration, excruciating tannin, this earthy, meaty St.-Julien has everything, but it needs to be forgotten for at least 10-15 years. At this tasting, it did not appear to have budged since the last time I had it, and it did not taste terribly different than it did at age five. While it is remarkably concentrated, it is hard to rate it any higher because it may take another 25 years to reach maturity. Even with this level of concentration, one can never be sure if the fruit will hold. Nevertheless, I have plenty of confidence in it. .

This is the tasting note for 1982 Chateau Leoville Las Cases St Julien from Robert Parker - with a score of 100. As I wrote earlier this year, the 1982 Léoville Las Cases is one of the least evolved wines of the vintage, and this impeccably conserved ex-château bottle was, if anything, even more youthful still. Retaining a saturated ruby-black hue at age 40, it unwinds in the glass with aromas of cassis and other dark fruits mingled with notions of pencil shavings and loamy soil. On the palate, it's full-bodied, broad-shouldered and muscular, with an ample core of fruit framed by voluminous, powdery tannins. Rich and concentrated, with an expansive, comparatively low-acid profile, it comes into its own with extended aeration—and with food.
