An Ontario based collector whose passion for wine began almost 60 years ago. His collection consists of 80% French wines and the remaining 20% from the other fine wine producing regions of the world with vintages spanning the last 150 years. Most of the wines were purchased through a UK agent and via New York and Chicago’s auction markets and some through local agents. He is fanatical when it comes to provenance and storage of the wines, his cellar is state of the art and humidity and temperature controlled. He treasures his extensive collection with the heart and soul being his Burgundies. This wonderful collection comes to Iron Gate as he begins to downsize.
1982 Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Pauillac from this lot has the following scores - Vinous 100 points, The Wine Advocate 100 points, John Gilman's View from the Cellar 100 points, Decanter 100 points, Jeb Dunnuck 100 points. This is the tasting note for 1982 Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Pauillac from Robert Parker - with a score of 100 points. Several years ago, I purchased a case of the 1982 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande from a frigid Alsatian cellar where it had lain undisturbed since release, and from these bottles, it continues to very much merit a three-digit score. One of the most flamboyant, sensual wines of the vintage, it offers up a sweet bouquet of blackcurrants and blackberries mingled with notions of orange rind, violets, licorice and pipe tobacco. Full-bodied, supple and enveloping, with melting tannins, ripe acids and a long, cedar-inflected finish, it continues to deliver magical drinking. Having drunk the 1982 six or seven times this year, however, I am forced to concede that bottles that show this level of vibrancy and flare aren't so easy to find, so now is a great time to start pulling corks in earnest. This may not prove to be the very longest-lived wine of the vintage, but its star certainly did burn bright!.
