This consignor’s interest in wine began early and grew steadily over the past 25 years. Originally from rural British Columbia, his passion deepened after moving to Vancouver for university, where he spent time exploring shops like Kits Wine Cellar, Liberty Wine Merchants, and Marquis Wines—tasting his way through various regions. Influenced by Kermit Lynch’s Adventures on the Wine Route, he developed a strong appreciation for authentic, character-driven wines. Over the past decade, he began purchasing primarily by the case, sourcing directly from importers, private retailers, and auctions, including Iron Gate. As his collection grew in value and age-worthiness, he ensured proper storage at Griffin Wine Storage in North Vancouver, maintaining ideal temperature and humidity conditions.
The score for 1983 Opus One Napa Valley is 92 from Vinous and the tasting note - The 1983 Opus One is absolutely impeccable. Dark red cherries, plums, licorice, tobacco and leather meld together in a wine that is all about balance. Soft and engaging, the 1983 is a great choice for drinking now and over the next decade. The 1983 isn't as huge or structured as some of the other vintages in this vertical, but it is drop-dead gorgeous. Both 1982 and 1983 show the characteristics of wet vintages with large crops that resulted in somewhat compact wines. In 1983 the Cabernet Sauvignon is a bit low for the era at 80%, while the rest of the blend is composed of 13% Cabernet Franc and 7% Merlot. Additional scores for the wine in this lot - Vinous 92 points .
