This collection belongs to a consignor whose father purchased the wine in 1992 to commemorate her birth year, with the original intention of opening it for her wedding. She has since made the thoughtful decision to sell the bottles and invest the proceeds in her child’s future. The wine was sourced through the LCBO and placed directly into the family’s in-house wine cellar, maintained at a consistent temperature. It remained in the cellar from 1992 until 2002, at which point it was transferred to a wine fridge, where it has been stored ever since under the same controlled conditions. Her father has been an avid wine collector since the 1980s and continues to collect today—a lifelong passion that has inspired her own appreciation for fine wine.
1985 Chateau Margaux from this lot has the following scores - Tom Cannavan 97 points, Vinous 96 points, The Wine Advocate 96 points, Jean-Marc Quarin 96 points, Adrian van Velsen - vvWine.ch 96 points, Jeannie Cho Lee (formerly Asian Palate) 95 points, Decanter 95 points, Jeff Leve The Wine Cellar Insider 95 points. This is the tasting note for 1985 Chateau Margaux from Robert Parker - Approaching full maturity, this beautifully sweet Chateau Margaux has a dense plum/purple color and a huge, sweet nose of black currants intermixed with licorice, toast, underbrush, and flowers. Medium to full-bodied with supple tannin and a fleshy, juicy, very succulent and multi-layered mid-palate, this expansive, velvety wine has entered its plateau of maturity, where it should remain (assuming good storage) for at least another 10-15 years. A very delicious, seductive, and opulent Chateau Margaux to drink over the next two decades.
