The wine in this collection comes from an Ontario based cellar established in 1976. The owner has always had an appreciation of wine and he became more knowledgeable after reading A Wine Tour of France as a young adult. He built a cellar in his home and started to purchase wine for consumption as well as for collecting. Much of the wine came from the LCBO and their auction but he also purchased some in Alberta where he fondly remembers buying a 1967 Chateau D’Yquem. He doesn’t drink wine as much these days and decided to put some of his collection up for auction so that others have the opportunity to enjoy the wine he has collected over the years.
The score for 1986 Chateau Lafite Rothschild Pauillac is 95+ from Robert Parker and the tasting note - The 1986 Lafite Rothschild unfurls in the decanter and glass with aromas of earthy blackcurrant fruit mingled with notions of cigar box and red berries. Richer and darker in profile than the 1975 drunk alongside, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and concentrated, displaying a velvety attack and a lively core of fruit, with just a touch of the tannic asperity that often defines this vintage in the Médoc making itself felt on the finish. As it approaches its 40th birthday, the 1986 Lafite still needs several hours' decant to show its best.
