All lots are located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Confirmation of pickup or delivery of Iron Gate Commercial Auction winnings must be made within 60 days of auction close. Thereafter, your winnings will be subject to storage fees, including a $75 setup, subsequent $5.00/case/month and $1.25 per bottle fee for inventory services. If no contact has been made within two years, auction winnings will be considered abandoned.
It is the responsibility of the buyer to make all arrangements for insuring, packing and removing the property purchased and any assistance by the Auctioneer, or the employees of, agents or contractors in packing and removal shall be rendered as a courtesy and without any liability to them. The Auctioneer shall not be liable for any errors or omissions or damage caused by packers and shippers, notwithstanding the fact that the Auctioneer may have recommended such shippers or packers to the purchaser.
A passionate and seasoned collector from Toronto, who has been buying fine wine since 1978. He purchased his first case of Mouton Rothschild and Chateau Latour at the vintage store in Ottawa and many bottles through the SAQ. He and his wife love traveling to wine regions in France and Italy and they acquired numerous bottles during their journeys. After downsizing to a smaller space, he decided to reduce his collection, hoping it will find a new owner who will appreciate it as much as he has. The collection was kept in his temperature-controlled cellar before going to auction.
The score for 1986 Chateau Margaux is 98 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - A magnificent example of Chateau Margaux and one of the most tannic, backward Margauxs of the last 50 years, the 1986 continues to evolve at a glacial pace. The color is still a dense ruby/purple with just a hint of lightening at the rim. With several hours of aeration, the aromatics become striking, with notes of smoke, toast, creme de cassis, mineral, and white flowers. Very full-bodied, with high but sweet tannin, great purity, and a very masculine, full-bodied style, this wine should prove nearly immortal in terms of its aging potential. It is beginning to budge from its infantile stage and approach adolescence. Anticipated maturity - 2008-2050.
