His passion for wine began socially in his twenties, evolving by his early thirties into a dedicated, lifelong interest. He started collecting on a modest budget during an era of more accessible pricing, initially sourcing bottles from the LCBO and the Opimian Society before expanding his reach to Buffalo, Rochester, and international locales. This growing collection eventually found a home in his Victorian residence, where he personally converted an old coal cellar into a climate-controlled wine cellar through meticulous insulation and shelving. Today, these decades of careful curation allow him and his wife to enjoy a seamless blend of perfectly matured vintages and contemporary acquisitions.
1989 Chateau Lynch Bages Pauillac from this lot has the following scores - The Wine Advocate 99 points, Falstaff Magazine 97 points, Jeff Leve The Wine Cellar Insider 97 points. This is the tasting note for 1989 Chateau Lynch Bages Pauillac from Robert Parker - One of the all-time great vintages for this château is the 1989 Lynch-Bages, a striking wine that offers up pure and intense aromas of cassis, pencil shavings, spring flowers and hints of cigar wrapper. Full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, it's seamless and concentrated, with a rich core of fruit, ripe tannins and a beautifully defined finish. Still an infant at age 32, it surpasses all three of Pauillac's first growths in 1989.
