A spirits aficionado who discovered Scotch when he was in the military. He began his collection in the 80's and at the same time began looking for more exotic Scotch tastings. He researched all the distillery locations in Scotland and became particularly interested in "Silent Stills", along with anything else that caught his eye. He amassed 1100 bottles, sourced from the LCBO, independent distributors in Canada and USA, independent bottlers and distilleries in Scotland, and retailers in the USA. He would have “Whiskey Weekends” at his country house and invite an eclectic mix of drinkers to sample any whiskey they desired which were all displayed in my “Whiskey Room”, which over the years became a coveted ticket. It is a change in lifestyle that is bringing these spirits to auction.
Built in the last years on the 19th century, Imperial is a distillery with a sadly chequered history, spending almost as much time in mothballs as it did distilling. Its longest period of production came between 1955 and 1985 under the ownership of DCL (now Diageo). Imperial was demolished in 2013 and the site now houses the new distillery, Dalmunach. This bottle from the Gordon & MacPhail Private Collection range. This is an earlier addition to the series, before it replaced Rare Old as their premium label in 2018. These older editions focussed on cask finishing, in this case, ex-Claret wood. Distilled at Imperial Distillery. Cask 97/304. Bottle 1267/3100. Bottled 8/2000.
