This consignor’s wine journey began in the early 1980s, when quality wines were still reasonably priced. Regular visits to the LCBO Vintages shop in Sherwood Forest, Mississauga—now closed—provided access to weekly tastings and a diverse selection. The collection grew through purchases from the LCBO, wine agents, specialty shops in BC, the U.S., Australia, and directly from wineries during travels. All bottles were stored in a refrigerated, temperature- and humidity-controlled wine cabinet to ensure optimal preservation.
1990 Sassicaia Bolgheri from this lot has the following scores - Decanter 96 points. This is the tasting note for 1990 Sassicaia Bolgheri from Robert Parker - This is a beautiful wine that has passed the test of time with flying colors. The 1990 Sassicaia is a thrilling expression that opens to succulent darkness and deep layers of ripe fruit opulence. Dried blackberry, plum and black currant keep the fruit profile high. Background notes of cumin, exotic spice and cured tobacco add power and weight. Lighter tones of balsam herb and crushed mineral are important components of the wine's elegance. The mouthfeel is structured and richly textured, but balanced by its acidity. Back when Robert Parker first reviewed this wine in 1994, he predicted that it would last through the first decade of the 21st century. Given how well the wine is showing now, it's safe to extend that drinking window even further.
1990 Ornellaia Bolgheri DOC from this lot has the following scores - Wine Spectator 96 points, Vinous 94 points.
1990 Marchesi Antinori Solaia Toscana from this lot has the following scores - Wine Spectator 95 points, The Wine Advocate 94 points, CellarTracker 93 points. This is the tasting note for 1990 Marchesi Antinori Solaia Toscana from Robert Parker - The 1990 Solaia is slightly more concentrated than the 1990 Tignanello, with a saturated purple color, and a classic, international nose of cassis, lead pencil, vanillin, and smoke. It is gorgeously rich, with a fat, unctuous texture, and a long, highly extracted finish. Well-balanced and already delicious, it remains unevolved and is potentially a 12-20 year wine. In the context of recent Solaias, I would rate it a worthy competitor to the other-worldly 1985. It is certainly much more opulent, with sweeter, jammier, richer fruit than the 1988 (most recently rated 88 points).
