This prestigious collection comes to Iron Gate from a revered connoisseur and long-time wine collector. Lover of American wines, he spent many years sourcing them from some of the USA's finest properties and had them stored professionally at 55 Degrees in Napa Valley. Recognizing his cellar had grown far beyond what he could reasonably consume, he's brought the wines to auction to share with fellow enthusiasts.
The tasting note for 1992 Abreu Vineyards Madrone Ranch Cabernet is from Robert Parker and the score is 90 - The impressively saturated black/purple-colored 1992 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a softer, plusher texture than the 1991. The nose offers more evolution in its cedar, tobacco, blackcurrant, smoky aromas. The wine possesses a wonderful inner-core of sweet fruit, and a multi-layered personality. Rich and full-bodied, with sweet tannin in the finish, this is a generous, full-bodied, youthful yet accessible Cabernet that should drink well for 20 more years. In tasting through all of Abreu's commercially available wines, I was struck by how consistent in quality they are. The exceptional 1991 and 1992 have been followed by phenomenal wines in 1993, 1994, 1995, and 1996. Most of these wines are 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the balance Cabernet Franc. The only exception is the 1995, which is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. The wines are worth owning
