We are honored to offer wines from one of Southwestern Ontario’s most notable cellars in this sale. The consignor, a long-time friend and client of Iron Gate, is a respected and passionate collector. The 2000 Romanée-Conti was purchased through LCBO Vintages on release. The 1998 and 1999 La Tache sequential bottles were bought at Zachy’s NY Auction in 2004. The remaining 1993 Romanee Conti (in OWC) and the 1993 and 1995 La Tâche were acquired from the famous cellar of Champlain Charest in Quebec. Once acquired, they were stored under ideal humidity and temperature-controlled conditions.
The score for 1993 DRC La Tache Monopole Grand Cru is 95 points from Allen Meadows, The Burghound and the tasting note - The nose evidences an overt floral quality, and a fascinating mix of earth, leather, tea and spice notes plus an interesting green bark component. The powerful, serious and wonderfully rich flavors are dense, in fact extremely dense with excellent depth of material and terrific complexity on the still somewhat austere finish that seems to go on forever. Though there is enough secondary character to confirm the now 30+ years of age, this remains quite vibrant while making it clear that this will live for decades.
