This prestigious collection comes to Iron Gate from a revered connoisseur and long-time wine collector. Lover of American wines, he spent many years sourcing them from some of the USA's finest properties and had them stored professionally at 55 Degrees in Napa Valley. Recognizing his cellar had grown far beyond what he could reasonably consume, he's brought the wines to auction to share with fellow enthusiasts.
Producer Notes for 1994 Domaine Dujac Bonnes Mares Grand Cru - Domaine Dujac is a highly regarded and critically lauded wine producer based in Burgundy's Morey-Saint-Denis appellation. It makes high-quality wines from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, ranging from entry-level Bourgogne to wines made from some of the top Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte de Nuits, including Clos de la Roche and Le Chambertin. Vineyard notes - "The Bonnes Mares Grand Cru lies between the village of Morey-Saint-Denis to the north and Chambolle-Musigny to the south, halfway up the hillside where the slope is very steep (11%). The plot ranges in altitude from 278 to 296 meters. The lieu-dit faces east. The soil changes from east to west. The reddish-brown soil in the eastern part is 40 to 50 cm thick, with frequent blunt crinoidal limestone fragments (calcaire à Entroques). To the west, the light-colored soil is about as thick, but less stony, with some small oyster shells. Two different types of substratum underlie Les Bonnes Mares. In the eastern part, ocher limestone rich in debris from marine organisms (calcaire à Entroques) crops out in places, because there was once a quarry in this Grand Cru. In the upper quarter of the plot, to the west, this limestone is overlain by marls rich in small oyster shells (marnes à Ostrea Acuminata)."
