This consignor grew up among the vineyards in the Niagara region and has fond memories of eating grapes off the vines at her friend’s family farm. It was during her 20s that she learned to appreciate wine, travelling through France, Italy and eastern Europe for business. In her 60s she began to collect wine seriously, some shipped to her by business associates and others purchased from wine merchants and collectors. The bottles have been meticulously stored in a custom designed wine cellar and were then moved into 2 temperature-controlled wine cabinets.
The tasting note for 1996 Domaine Drouhin Laurene Pinot Noir Dundee Hillsis from Robert Parker - The medium-to-dark ruby-colored 1996 Cuvee Laurene Pinot Noir offers toasty oak, spice, and floral aromas. This beautifully textured wine has excellent concentration, medium-to-full body, and well-defined yet dense flavors of cherries, blackberries, and blueberries. Typical of the vintage, its finish is rather firm and astringent, yet it appears to have the requisite fruit to outlast the tannins. The score for 2000 Domaine Drouhin Laurene Pinot Noir Dundee Hills is 90 from Robert Parker and the tasting note - Elderberry jam laced with iodine, sealing wax, brown spices, moss, and crushed stone mingle on the nose and palate of Domaine Drouhin 2 Pinot Noir Laurene, whose balance of oxidative with fresh berry elements strikes me as ideal. The texture here remains quite caressing, and the finish sweeter and juicier but no less hauntingly persistent than that of the “regular” 22 bottling tasted alongside.
