This prestigious collection comes to Iron Gate from a revered connoisseur and long-time wine collector. Lover of American wines, he spent many years sourcing them from some of the USA's finest properties and had them stored professionally at 55 Degrees in Napa Valley. Recognizing his cellar had grown far beyond what he could reasonably consume, he's brought the wines to auction to share with fellow enthusiasts.
The score for 1997 Fanti Tenuta San Filippo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is 97 points from Stephen Tanzer and the tasting note - Opaque, almost inky garnet with a purple core. Exotic nose of clove, cinnamon and cocoa. Very sweet, dense and fresh on the palate, with blackberry jam, ripe plum, chocolate, mint and vanilla in evidence. Generously structured and quite opulent, with ripe polished tannins and a cassis-laden finish of great warmth and persistence. Succulent and compelling- a great wine. The score for 2000 Fanti Tenuta San Filippo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is 91 points from Wine Enthusiast and the tasting note - Strong-willed and pure smelling, with lush cherry, cola and tree bark aromas mingling with berry and cherry. While it sits on the fence between racy and creamy, it delivers vanilla and chocolate flavors along with pure plum and black cherry. Features sharp tannins and bracing acidity.
