A collector, based in Toronto, became interested in wine while visiting his father-in-law in Hong Kong over 60 years ago. He also owned a restaurant that had an impressive wine list and was was able to visit many wineries throughout France. He continued collecting after selling the restaurant with most of his bottles purchased upon release from the LCBO. He took meticulous care of his wine, labeling many of the bottles and storing them in a temperature and humidity controlled cellar in his home.
The score for1997 Marchesi di Barolo Cannubi Barolo DOCG is 92 from Wine Spectator and this is the tasting note -Loads of ripe, almost dry plum aromas, with hints of mineral and mint. Full-bodied and very pretty, with lots of ripe fruit enhanced by a toasted, chocolate character. Medium to long finish. Modern and very pretty. The score for1998 Marchesi di Barolo Sarmassa Barolo DOCG is 90-92 from Robert Parker and this is the tasting note -Fleshy and opulent, the 1998 Barolo Vigna Sarmassa is made in a voluptuous, contemporary style with full body, abundant glycerin, and copious amounts of black cherry fruit infused with licorice, espresso, and melted road tar. Layered, pure, and impressive.
