Growing up, this Alberta-based consignor was immersed in the world of old-world wines, as his parents were from France and had a deep appreciation for fine wines from a young age. Through an organization called YPO, he formed lasting friendships with like-minded individuals, and together, they began collecting wines. Their adventures took them across France and Italy, where they visited Chateaus and wineries to experience wine firsthand. Along the way, they learned the rich history behind each family’s vines, grapes, and winemaking techniques, taking note of the subtle nuances that made the wine special. His bottles were imported directly from the wineries through AGLC. He has a specially designed cellar in the basement of his home, built with original Chicago brick and equipped with temperature and humidity controls.
The rating for 1997 Petrus Pomerol is 92 points from and the tasting note - This wine offers up a gorgeously sweet nose of black raspberry and blueberry fruit intertwined with spicy oak and minerals. In the mouth, it is all finesse and fruit, with medium body, no hard edges, and an excellent, surprisingly long finish. Not a huge, blockbuster style of Pomerol, it emphasizes harmony and richness without the accompanying muscle and tannin. Given the wine's overall balance and depth, it will drink beautifully young, yet have the ability to age for 12-15+ years.
