This consignor developed a deep appreciation for wine after attending tastings and courses, quickly recognizing the difference between everyday bottles and premium selections. He relied on Vintages Classics, Wine Spectator, and trusted wine specialists for guidance. Highlights of his collection include five bottles of Château Lafite Rothschild—two from 1996, rated 100 by Robert Parker Jr., and three from 2001, also highly rated. Acquired through futures purchases, these and the remaining 67 bottles were stored in a cellar within an air-conditioned office, maintaining ideal conditions.
The score for 1998 Chateau Lafite Rothschild Pauillac is 96 from Robert Parker and the tasting note - A blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot, the 1998 Lafite Rothschild is deep garnet with a hint of brick and gorgeous notions of sandalwood, crème de cassis, smoked meats, black pepper and garrigue with touches of chargrill, dried herbs and mincemeat pie. Medium-bodied, soft and plush on the palate, it has tons of mouth-filling savory and plum preserves flavors and a very long, savory finish. Delicious now, it should keep for 15-20 more years. Additional scores for the wine in this lot - Vinous 96 points , The Wine Advocate 96 points , Falstaff Magazine 96 points , Wine Spectator 95 points , Jeannie Cho Lee (formerly Asian Palate) 95 points , Decanter 95 points , Wine & Spirits Magazine 94 points , CellarTracker 94 points , .
