While studying economics at UCLA, the consignor frequently spent weekends and holidays exploring nearby wine regions such as Santa Barbara, Napa, and Sonoma. Upon returning to Canada, he joined Janet Webb (J. Webb Wine Merchant), where his journey as a collector began. He had the good fortune of acquiring wine through the shop and, later, during his time operating Highlander, enjoyed access to an extraordinary range of wines. His travels took him to nearly every major wine region, and he consistently brought back bottles to add to his collection. His cellar was maintained across his home, his company’s warehouse, and several EuroCaves, all temperature-controlled.
The score for 1998 Krug Clos d Ambonnay Blanc de Noirs Brut is 93 from Robert Parker and the tasting note - The 1998 Brut Blanc de Noirs Clos d'Ambonnay reaffirms my impression from last year. The 1998 is a rich, vinous Clos d-Ambonnay with generous fruit and an inviting, open personality. Crushed flowers, plums, cherries and sweet spices all flow from the glass. Today, the 1998 is rich, deep and highly expressive. There are no new vintage wines from Krug, but is always interesting to revisit these wines as they develop so much over time. The biggest news at Krug is the addition of ID Codes to the NV wines, which gives readers the opportunity to get more information on the wines (including disgorgement dates) through Krug's website. It would be great to see more of the larger houses follow suit. Additional scores for the wine in this lot - Wine Spectator 98 points .
