An Alberta based consignor who worked in the wine industry for 20 years and had the opportunity to meet many producers and travel to wine regions around the world. When she started in the industry in the early 2000s, she was very interested in certain wineries, in particular, The Perrin Family Wines and Chateau de Beaucastel. She had the pleasure of meeting Thomas Perrin and enjoyed tasting his family wines and started collecting them, realizing their exceptional taste and aging potential. She also had the opportunity to stay at the family boutique hotel, Les Chambres de L'Oustalet, and visit the winery to enjoy a vertical tasting. The wines were all purchased through the agency she worked for and stored in a home cellar with a consistent temperature.
The score for 1999 Chateau d'Yquem Sauternes Premier Cru Superieur is 92 from Robert Parker and the tasting note - Medium gold in color, the 1999 d'Yquem has shed its puppy fat and transformed into compelling cinnamon toast, creme caramel and cashew notions with emerging notes of beurre blanc, honeycomb, ginger snaps and praline over a core of peach preserves and apple pie. The palate is softly spoken with a refreshing backbone carrying loads of delicate savory and stone fruit preserves nuances to a long, beautifully restrained finish. At the 20-year mark, this wine is in the midst of its ideal drinking window, and while I hasten to add that there is no rush to drink up, there’s also no need to delay your gratification either. The alcohol this vintage is 13.8%, while the residual sugar is 128 grams per liter, and the total acidity is 4.5 grams per liter of H2SO
