A consignor from BC, his passion for wine began 30 years ago. He built a temperature and humidity-controlled cellar in the 90s and stores his collection there. The bottles were all sourced either direct from the producers or through Marquis Wine Cellars in Vancouver.
The rating for 1999 M Chapoutier Ermitage L'Ermite Hermitage is 96 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - The 1999 Ermitage l'Ermite is a wine that borders on perfection compared to its backward performance last year from barrel. Sadly, there are usually 500-600 cases of the cuvee, but in 1999 only 400 were produced. It comes from Chapoutier's oldest vines (most over 100 years of age), and represents the essence of both Hermitage and Syrah. From bottle, the 1999 l'Ermite reveals an old style Lafleur character in its kirsch liqueur intermixed with raspberries, blackberries, and striking minerality. It has put on considerable weight since last year, but is essentially an elegant, ethereal effort with incredible intensity as well as amazing lightness. It is a phenomenal expression of terroir. However, be forewarned, anyone expecting to derive a lot of pleasure from this before another fifteen years elapse, will be disappointed. The rating for 1999 M Chapoutier Ermitage Pavillon Hermitage is 96 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - The prodigious 1999 Ermitage Le Pavillon boasts creme de cassis aromatics intermixed with unmistakable aromas of ink. It is full-bodied and fabulously concentrated as well as powerful, with a finish that lasts for fifty seconds. This saturated black/purple-colored 1999 exhibits remarkable symmetry, purity, and overall massive size all juxtaposed with a sense of elegance and restraint. It is a monumental achievement, but ultimately is less successful than the great 1998 or 2000.
