A consignor from BC, his passion for wine began 30 years ago. He built a temperature and humidity-controlled cellar in the 90s and stores his collection there. The bottles were all sourced either direct from the producers or through Marquis Wine Cellars in Vancouver.
The tasting note for 1999 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Washington is from Robert Parker - Perhaps the most akin to aged Bordeaux, the 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon has funky, woody aromas of pencil shavings and graphite with subtle green herbs and freeze-dried green bell pepper essence. I can tell this was a brighter, herbaceous wine when it was originally released, but the wine has aged for over two decades. Reaching full maturity, this reminds me of Ridge 1980s. I don't suppose there are too many of the 1999s left worldwide, but surely they have seen better days. Medium to full-bodied, funky barnyard notes with dried hay elements and stewed black cherries sway on the palate with pleasing earthy and funky tones, which give way to dried briar and potpourri. Surprisingly, the wine still has some serious minerality, while the fruit is fully evolved and in decline. However, I think this particular wine may hit a second plateau in the next five years. For consumers who still have this in their cellar and enjoy their Cabernet fresh and crunchy, that boat has sailed. But for consumers who enjoy the funk of the Old World, I believe this wine will hit another level in the next four to six years. Super funk, next stop! I will reserve my score and drink date for this wine, as it has seen better days.
