All lots are located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Confirmation of pickup or delivery of Iron Gate Commercial Auction winnings must be made within 60 days of auction close. Thereafter, your winnings will be subject to storage fees, including a $75 setup, subsequent $5.00/case/month and $1.25 per bottle fee for inventory services. If no contact has been made within two years, auction winnings will be considered abandoned.
It is the responsibility of the buyer to make all arrangements for insuring, packing and removing the property purchased and any assistance by the Auctioneer, or the employees of, agents or contractors in packing and removal shall be rendered as a courtesy and without any liability to them. The Auctioneer shall not be liable for any errors or omissions or damage caused by packers and shippers, notwithstanding the fact that the Auctioneer may have recommended such shippers or packers to the purchaser.
The wine in this collection comes from an Ontario based cellar established in 1976. The owner has always had an appreciation of wine and he became more knowledgeable after reading A Wine Tour of France as a young adult. He built a cellar in his home and started to purchase wine for consumption as well as for collecting. Much of the wine came from the LCBO and their auction but he also purchased some in Alberta where he fondly remembers buying a 1967 Chateau D’Yquem. He doesn’t drink wine as much these days and decided to put some of his collection up for auction so that others have the opportunity to enjoy the wine he has collected over the years.
The score for 2000 Chateau La Mission Haut Brion Pessac Leognan is 100 from Robert Parker and the tasting note - One of the wines of the vintage, the 2000 has barely budged in its evolution since it was bottled and released in 2002. After ten years in bottle, it still reveals a dense opaque purple color along with a potentially sensational bouquet of blueberries, black currants, graphite, asphalt and background oak. Extremely powerful, full-bodied and superbly concentrated with good acidity and high but round tannins, this massive La Mission-Haut-Brion should take its place among this estate’s most hallowed vintages when it hits full maturity in another one to two decades. I was surprised by just how youthful this wine tasted at age 12. If tasted blind, I would have guessed it to be around 4 to 5 years old. Anticipated maturity- 2020-2050.
