A Toronto based consignor whose father was also a collector and imported wines from Central Italy, started his own collection over 30 years ago. The wines, an impressive mix from France, Italy and California, were purchased through the LCBO and some Toronto agents. He built his own custom temperature-controlled cellar where the wines have been stored since procurement.
2001 Dal Forno Romano Amarone della Valpolicella Monte Lodoletta DOCG from this lot has the following scores - Falstaff Magazine 98 points, Vinous 97 points, The Wine Advocate 97 points. This is the tasting note for 2001 Dal Forno Romano Amarone della Valpolicella Monte Lodoletta DOCG from Robert Parker - Nearly black color. Extremely youthful, unforthcoming nose hints at black cherry, plum, violet, bitter chocolate, quinine and bell pepper. This is almost too concentrated and tannic to describe. Palate- and toothstaining flavors of black plum, coffee liqueur, spices, tobacco, vanilla and herbs abound. Alcoholic, heady wine, with a much denser and more tannic finish than the Amarones of Giuseppe Quintarelli. Not for those who believe that less can be more. This cult producer's 2000s are clearly superior to his 1999s, a lesser year for Amarone..
