In the consignors words "These wines were purchased by my father. He started collecting wines in the 1980s. In the early days of his wine education, he joined several wine clubs and went to wine tastings and other events. While he enjoyed many types of wines, he honed in on Bordeaux as his favourite, for drinking and collecting. He belonged to the Vancouver chapter of the Commanderie de Bordeaux and Bordeaux made up the bulk of his wine cellar. He enjoyed travelling very much and was able to visit Bordeaux several times and arranged visits to several of the great vineyards featured in his collection. The wines being auctioned were purchased as futures from agents in Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. The wines were stored since purchase in a custom-built home wine cellar in BC. The wine cellar is a temperature and humidity-controlled room in the basement of a lovely house. Dad bought wines from many vintages and sought out the 2003, 2005, and 2006, thinking of his grandchildren who were born in those years. Dad passed away about 10 years ago. Since he is not around to share with his grandkids, and they are not as appreciative of fine Bordeaux, we hope they will find new owners who will enjoy them as our father would have. "
The wine in this lot has a score of 94 from Robert Parker and the following tasting note -Troplong Mondot’s 2003 is a brilliant success in this vintage, largely because of the limestone soils and incredibly low yields. There are nearly 70 acres of vines in production, yields were tiny, and the harvest was early. Nevertheless, there is an opulence and youthfulness in this wine that suggest it has at least a decade of life left. A luxurious effort with high glycerin, loads of blueberry, mulberry, black currant, licorice and charcoal ember-like notes, full body, low acidity and sweet tannin, this beauty is close to full maturity and can be drunk now as well as over the next decade.
