This prestigious collection comes to Iron Gate from a revered connoisseur and long-time wine collector. Lover of American wines, he spent many years sourcing them from some of the USA's finest properties and had them stored professionally at 55 Degrees in Napa Valley. Recognizing his cellar had grown far beyond what he could reasonably consume, he's brought the wines to auction to share with fellow enthusiasts.
The score for2004 Domaine de Cristia Renaissance Chateauneuf du Pape is 95 from Robert Parker and this is the tasting note -Slightly more dense and concentrated, with beautiful mid-palate density and depth (no doubt from the Mourvedre), the 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Renaissance (60% Grenache, 40% Mourvedre, aged in 25% new French oak) boast stunning notes of blackberry, cassis, licorice, spice-box, white chocolate and roasted garrigue. Full-bodied, rich and thrillingly textured, with a un-2004-like hedonistic appeal, it will continue to dish out loads of pleasure over the coming decade. Winemaker Baptiste Grangeon hit a home run with his 2004s, and both his Vieilles Vignes and cuvee Renaissance are some of the top wines in the vintage. They show uncommon depth and richness, with big textures, loads of fruit and solid structure. While they’re both a joy to drink now, I see no reason they won’t continue to evolve gracefully (especially the Renaissance).
The score for2004 Domaine de Cristia Vieilles Vignes Chateauneuf du Pape is 94 from Robert Parker and this is the tasting note -The first vintage for the tiny production, old-vine Grenache cuvee, the 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is 100% Grenache, from the oldest holdings of the estate, that was raised in older, small barrels. It's a sensational 2004 that exhibits lots of plum, black cherries, caramelized meats, chocolate and violet aromas and flavors. Big, rich, full-bodied and uncommonly sexy and textured in the vintage, it is drinking beautifully today but should have no issues evolving through 2019+.
