This prestigious collection comes to Iron Gate from a revered connoisseur and long-time wine collector. Lover of American wines, he spent many years sourcing them from some of the USA's finest properties and had them stored professionally at 55 Degrees in Napa Valley. Recognizing his cellar had grown far beyond what he could reasonably consume, he's brought the wines to auction to share with fellow enthusiasts.
The wine in this lot has a score of 90 from Allen Meadows and the following tasting note -This reflects the elegance that can be found in Prémeaux and the Mugnier touch only adds to this with a nicely complex and aromatically expressive nose that offers detailed and pure aromas of earth, black fruit and plum that dissolve into beautifully complex, refined and balanced flavors that also display ample finishing minerality, a touch of austerity and reasonably good phenolic ripeness. There is some noticeable acidity on the backend but it's not enough to cause dryness. A really lovely effort that should age effortlessly and while this presently has a touch of forest floor on the nose, I suspect that it will pass in time.
