Producer Notes for 2005 Jerome Bressy Domaine Gourt de Mautens Rasteau - This is one of the sensational estates in Rasteau, with proprietor Jerome Bressy farming just over 20 acres of vines. Organic farming and the naturally low yields of his old vines (8-15 hectoliters per hectare) result in wines of extraordinary concentration and intensity. The general blend on his Rasteau is 70% Grenache and the rest Syrah, Mourvedre, and Carignan. Rasteau Vin Doux Naturel wines are sweet wines from the parish of Rasteau, in the southern Rhône valley. They are made in various hues, all from hand harvested Grenache grapes. Vins doux naturel (naturally sweet wine) is produced by using pure grape spirit to stop fermentation, while there is still a significant quantity of sugar remaining. This process results in a sweet wine with a higher alcohol level (around 16 percent in this case).
