While studying economics at UCLA, the consignor frequently spent weekends and holidays exploring nearby wine regions such as Santa Barbara, Napa, and Sonoma. Upon returning to Canada, he joined Janet Webb (J. Webb Wine Merchant), where his journey as a collector began. He had the good fortune of acquiring wine through the shop and, later, during his time operating Highlander, enjoyed access to an extraordinary range of wines. His travels took him to nearly every major wine region, and he consistently brought back bottles to add to his collection. His cellar was maintained across his home, his company’s warehouse, and several EuroCaves, all temperature-controlled.
The score for 2005 Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Gran Bussia is 95 from Robert Parker and the tasting note - The 2005 Barolo Riserva Granbussia represents a selection of fruit from the oldest vines. This is an elegant and pure expression of Nebbiolo that shows a dark ruby hue and deeply finessed aromas of wild berry, wet earth, iron, black truffle and some sweet baking spice. This is an elegant and synthetic interpretation of the greater Bussia cru that extends down the crest of a long hill from Monteforte d'Alba to Barolo. The finish is elegant, silky and fine. Only 2,900 bottles were made. Additional scores for the wine in this lot - James Suckling 100 points .
