This prestigious collection comes to Iron Gate from a revered connoisseur and long-time wine collector. Lover of American wines, he spent many years sourcing them from some of the USA's finest properties and had them stored professionally at 55 Degrees in Napa Valley. Recognizing his cellar had grown far beyond what he could reasonably consume, he's brought the wines to auction to share with fellow enthusiasts.
The score for 2010 Gorman The Evil Twin is 94 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - Similarly styled, yet more complex and evolved, the 2010 The Evil Twin checks in as a blend of 60% Syrah and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, also all from Red Mountain. Aged in 100% new French oak, it boasts knockout aromatics of blackberry liqueur, cedar, toasted spice and licorice as well as a full-bodied, mouth-filling and decadently textured palate. Still possessing some tannin to integrate, it should evolve positively for 3-4 years and drink well for over a decade. These full throttle wines are made by Chris Gorman and focus primarily on Red Mountain fruit. They’re unabashedly full-bodied and ripe, and while not for the anti-alcohol crowd, deliver serious amounts of fruit and texture while staying fresh and very drinkable.
The score for 2007 Gorman The Evil Twin is 91 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - The 2007 The Evil Twin is a blend of 60% Syrah and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 100% new oak. A glass-coating opaque purple, it offers up an already complex bouquet of wood smoke, earth, mineral, bacon, game, violets, black currant, and blueberry. Full-bodied on the palate, dense, and extracted, it has plenty of underlying tannin, spicy flavors, mineral and earth notes, and a lengthy finish. Gorman Winery, owned, operated, and staffed entirely by Chris Gorman, began in 2002 and currently produces 1600 cases out of a Woodinville warehouse.
The score for 2006 Gorman The Evil Twin is 92 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - The 2006 Evil Twin is a blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah sourced from Red Mountain fruit and aged in 100% new oak. Purple-colored, it offers up a fragrant bouquet of smoked meat, game, mineral, scorched earth, black currant, and blueberry. Full-bodied, dense, and opulent on the palate, this burly, exceptionally lengthy effort should reveal greater complexity with another 3-5 years of bottle age. Gorman Winery, owned, operated, and staffed entirely by Chris Gorman, began in 2002 and currently produces 1600 cases out of a Woodinville warehouse.
