Growing up, this Alberta-based consignor was immersed in the world of old-world wines, as his parents were from France and had a deep appreciation for fine wines from a young age. Through an organization called YPO, he formed lasting friendships with like-minded individuals, and together, they began collecting wines. Their adventures took them across France and Italy, where they visited Chateaus and wineries to experience wine firsthand. Along the way, they learned the rich history behind each family’s vines, grapes, and winemaking techniques, taking note of the subtle nuances that made the wine special. His bottles were imported directly from the wineries through AGLC. He has a specially designed cellar in the basement of his home, built with original Chicago brick and equipped with temperature and humidity controls.
The rating for 2006 Chateau Leoville Las Cases St Julien is 96 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London and then blind at Farr Vintners horizontal, the 2006 Château Léoville Las-Cases has a very complex bouquet with heady scents of blackcurrant, kirsch, crushed violets, rock salt and just a hint of cassis. It is backward and can barely contain its energy. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very symmetrical and poised, a fine line of acidity interwoven through the black fruit, touches of citrus fruit developing towards the poised and tensile finish. This is a beautiful wine from Jean-Hubert Delon, but it needs several years in bottle. Tasted April 2016.
The rating for 2006 Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron Pauillac is 91 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Château Pichon Baron has more red than black fruit on the nose, quite showy with hints of crème de cassis and then later it calms down to reveal classic pencil lead aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip in the mouth. This is quite assertive and grippy, although later vintages have evinced more precision and mineralité on the finish. Still, this is a fine if rather burly Pichon Baron.
