This prestigious collection comes to Iron Gate from a revered connoisseur and long-time wine collector. Lover of American wines, he spent many years sourcing them from some of the USA's finest properties and had them stored professionally at 55 Degrees in Napa Valley. Recognizing his cellar had grown far beyond what he could reasonably consume, he's brought the wines to auction to share with fellow enthusiasts.
The score for 2007 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay Champans Premier Cru is 91 points from Allen Meadows, The Burghound and the tasting note - This is really quite pretty with its pure and elegant nose that is just beginning to display secondary fruit aromas along with subtle earth, spice and rose petal nuances. There is a lovely mouth feel to the subtly mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that possess very good depth on the balanced, focused and lingering finish. In contrast to some '07s that are either a bit too light or slightly under ripe, this is neither and I particularly like the lilting delivery. For my taste this has arrived at the front edge of its peak drinkability though it should easily hold there for another decade. In sum, this is a quality '07.
