This prestigious collection comes to Iron Gate from a revered connoisseur and long-time wine collector. Lover of American wines, he spent many years sourcing them from some of the USA's finest properties and had them stored professionally at 55 Degrees in Napa Valley. Recognizing his cellar had grown far beyond what he could reasonably consume, he's brought the wines to auction to share with fellow enthusiasts.
The wine in this lot has a score of 93 from Robert Parker and the following tasting note -The 2007 Barolo Via Nuova shows more verve and freshness than the Cannubi, which is not entirely surprising, given the sheltered exposure of this site. A lively vein of minerality supports gorgeous dark berries, flowers, sweet spices, sage and rosemary. Over time, the wine’s inner perfume blossoms in the glass, the tannins soften a touch and the radiant fruit becomes even more expressive. The generous quality of the vintage as expressed by this wine is truly striking. The Via Nuova is delicious today, and while it is far from a crime to open a bottle today, it will be even better in a few years. Chiara Boschis never misses a beat. Her 2007s were beautiful when I tasted them from barrel last year, and they are equally gorgeous now that they are in bottle. Boschis has gradually lowered the percentage of new oak in her wines, which is allowing the fruit to come through with notable elegance and transparency.
