This prestigious collection comes to Iron Gate from a revered connoisseur and long-time wine collector. Lover of American wines, he spent many years sourcing them from some of the USA's finest properties and had them stored professionally at 55 Degrees in Napa Valley. Recognizing his cellar had grown far beyond what he could reasonably consume, he's brought the wines to auction to share with fellow enthusiasts.
The score for2008 Louis M Martini Louis M Martini Cabernet Sauvignon Lot No 1 is 93 from Robert Parker and this is the tasting note -The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 1 is from a somewhat forgotten year in this decade, and is a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petite Sirah with more than half of the fruit sourced from Mount Veeder and the rest from the William Hill Estate and Domaine Chandon. It spent 22 months in 100% new French oak, is 15% natural alcohol and is among the smallest productions of the Lot 1 Cabernet Sauvignon at only 375 cases. Opaque purple in color, it has a somewhat reticent and reserved nose of cedar wood, Christmas fruitcake, roasted herbs, blackcurrant and black cherry. The wine shows some toast, is medium to full-bodied with a beautiful texture. It is a successful wine to drink now and over the next 20-25 years.
The score for2008 Louis M Martini Louis Martini Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Rosso Vineyard is 92 from Robert Parker and this is the tasting note -Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in a combination of new French oak (85%) and American oak (15%) for 22 months (a shorter period than the 2007), the 2008 tips the scales at 15.4% alcohol. Production (1,800 cases) was three times higher than the 2007. The full-bodied, rich 2008 offers copious amounts of black currants, cherries, loamy soil, tobacco leaf and roasted coffee characteristics. On a faster evolutionary track than the 2007 (even though the 2007 is a deeper, richer, more complete wine), the 2008 is another winner from Louis Martini.
