A long-time client of Iron Gate, this consignor first became interested in wine when he attended a Wine Spectator’s tasting, and someone opened a 1988 Tignanello. The bouquet and palate were an amazing shock to his senses. He began collecting fine wine in 2008 and built his cellar shortly after that. Wines were purchased through the LCBO and SAQ and stored in a temperature and humidity-controlled cellar.
The score for2010 Cliff Lede Vineyards Poetry Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District is 96 from Robert Parker and this is the tasting note -The most expensive wine in this portfolio is the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Poetry, a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and the rest small quantities of Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. This dark purple-colored 2010 offers up notes of blueberries, black currants, lead pencil shavings, spring flowers and high class, subtle toasty oak. Full-bodied, it comes across as the quintessential marriage of power and finesse. The extraordinary purity, deep, multilayered mid-palate and tremendous length result in a wine that can be approached now, or cellared for 20-25 years.
The score for2010 Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is 93 from Robert Parker and this is the tasting note -The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa exhibits classic notes of crème de cassis and forest floor in a rich, chocolaty, well-made, pure style. Dunn is famous for watering back the alcohol levels after picking very ripe, but this wine is beautifully balanced with sweet tannin as well as lots of blue and black fruits that handsomely reflect Napa’s strength with this varietal. Drink it over the next 10-15 years as the tannins are slightly more civilized and softer than some of Dunn’s ancient vintages.
