This consignor enjoyed wine in a casual, social setting, but a remarkable experience with a particular bottle at a restaurant sparked a deeper interest. Over the past decade, he has been actively collecting, focusing on quality and provenance. Much of his collection has been carefully sourced from reputable specialty wine stores across Alberta, with a select few bottles acquired during travels abroad or through trusted auction houses. All wines have been properly stored in a temperature-controlled home cellar or wine fridges.
2010 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru from this lot has the following scores - Falstaff Magazine 97 points, BurgHound.com 95 points, Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy 95 points. This is the tasting note for 2010 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru from Allen Meadows - *Don't Miss!* (the aggregate size of this holding is a whopping 3.4 ha and Ponsot is easily the largest holder in Clos de la Roche) In stark contrast to the expressiveness of the Clos St. Denis, this is almost mute and even aggressive swirling liberates only the briefest glimpses of wild red berries and earth notes. There is superb size and weight to the imposing and overtly muscular flavors that also enjoy an incredible amount of dry extract that confers a supple and seductively textured mouth feel to the highly concentrated mid-palate. The presently buried tannins are intense and markedly firm though not hard on the explosively long finish that seems to go on and on. This should be something very special if given sufficient time to reach its apogee. Drink
