A consignor based in Southwestern Ontario, his passion for wine began in his early adulthood, during a visit to his cousin in New York City. He was introduced to a couple of bottles of wine that were unlike anything he had ever tasted. Inspired by this experience, he began investing more money in the wine he bought. As he became more successful in his career, his appreciation for wine deepened, and he started collecting fine wines. He immersed himself in learning about wine, exploring various varietals, regions, and he and his wife visited Napa Valley twice with friends, which led to most of his early collection being focused on California wines. He soon ventured into Bordeaux Futures and found out that the LCBO offered an annual allocation of rare DRC wines, and over the years, he was fortunate enough to acquire several bottles. He takes great pride in his collection, purchased through the LCBO and direct from wineries, and stored all bottles in a temperature and humidity-controlled cellar.
The score for 2010 E Guigal La Landonne Cote Rotie is 100 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - A wine that's certainly not for those seeking instant gratification, the 2010 Cote Rotie la Landonne is a powerhouse Cote Rotie that offers up deep, masculine notes of crushed rocks, smoked meats, game, espresso and assorted dark cassis and currant-like fruit. Full-bodied, tight, structured and backward, with fabulous mid-palate density and length, it needs to be forgotten in the cellar for a decade, but will have 40-50 years of overall longevity.
The score for 2010 E Guigal La Mouline Cote Rotie is 100 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - As to three single parcel releases, I reviewed the 2010 Cote Rotie La Mouline earlier this year, but was more than happy to taste it again (lucky me) for this report. Incorporating a full 11% of Viognier and coming from the steep, terraced vines in the Cote Blonde lieu-dit, it sports a heavenly bouquet of spring flowers, incense, violets, cured meats and sweet cassis. Full-bodied, voluptuous and as seamless as they come, Syrah just doesn’t get any more alluring, sexy or impressive. Give it 5-6 years and drink bottles over the following 2 decades or more.
The score for 2010 E Guigal La Turque Cote Rotie is 100 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - Both the 2010 and the 2009 continue to blow me away every time I taste them, and to me, these represent the pinnacle of Cote Rotie—albeit in very different styles. The 2010 Cote Rotie la Turque is a much more masculine and edgy wine that's going to reward cellaring. Its inky black color is followed by classic notes of smoked meats, scorched earth, licorice and ample black fruits. Big, rich, tannic and structured, don’t think about touching bottles until at least 2020.
