This Alberta-based couple began their wine collection after enjoying a bottle of Corton Charlemagne at a remarkable restaurant during their anniversary in Les Baux-de-Provence, France, in 2009. Dining outdoors, the wine complemented the meal perfectly. The collection has grown through various sources; the Masseto from an Italian wine shop that maintains strong ties with several Italian vintners. The bottles were stored in a custom-built stone cellar in their home. What started with a single bottle of Corton Charlemagne one evening ignited a passion for collecting and designing a wine cellar filled with many cherished bottles enjoyed over special occasions.
The score for 2011 Domaine Leflaive Puligny Montrachet Les Pucelles Premier Cru is 93 points from Allen Meadows, The Burghound and the tasting note - A broad-ranging nose is comprised of honeysuckle, anise, clove, lemongrass, brioche and pear. There is an appealing sense of volume to the beautifully delineated, serious, textured and energetic flavors that are both classy and stylish, all wrapped in a hugely long yet delicately balanced finish where a touch of wood influence surfaces. A classy Pucelles of generosity and refinement that should amply reward at least a decade of cellaring.
