This consignor spent nine years in California where he developed a deep appreciation for their wines. His collecting began modestly in the 1980s while living there, but it wasn’t until he returned to Calgary in the late 90s that he took a more structured approach to acquiring wine. Every bottle of Bordeaux in his consignment was purchased En Primeur through trusted Calgary importers, Nobilis Wines and Richmond Hill Wines, and had remained in his possession since delivery. His collection was meticulously stored in a custom-built, temperature-controlled cellar, designed to house 1,500 bottles with touchpad security. For years, the wines rested in their original wooden crates before he began to enjoy them. His passion for French wines led him to purchase Bordeaux En Primeur annually since 2005, but over time, his collection became heavily weighted toward the region. Recognizing the need for balance, he turned to Irongate to help diversify his holdings.
The rating for 2014 Chateau La Fleur Petrus Pomerol is 94 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - The 2014 La Fleur Petrus is impressive out of barrel and it continues to evince quality now in bottle. It has a lovely, engaging bouquet with vivacious redcurrant and cranberry fruit, superb mineralité and energy, real focus and a sense of drive in situ. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a sense of symmetry and poise from start to finish. It has perhaps turned into a slightly more elegant and feminine wine than I anticipated, less bullish than the Hosanna. But there is real complexity on the finish with black pepper and clove lingering on the aftertaste. This is superb.
