The consignor’s passion for wine began during an extensive study of Australian wine regions, eventually leading him to establish his own import agency. While his expertise spans the globe, his personal collecting focus shifted toward Burgundy following the release of the 2002 vintage. All bottles in this collection were acquired through the LCBO and have been meticulously maintained in his custom home cellar, featuring dedicated temperature and humidity controls.
2016 Spottswoode Estate Vineyard Winery Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon St Helena from this lot has the following scores - The Wine Advocate 100 points, Jeb Dunnuck 100 points, The Wine Independent 100 points. This is the tasting note for 2016 Spottswoode Estate Vineyard Winery Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon St Helena from Robert Parker - with a score of 96. Still quite dark-hued, youthful and primary, Spottswoode's 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon features loads of powerful black cherries and cassis. It's medium to full-bodied and nicely structured, with a bit more of an acid edge than some vintages, which beautifully complements the ripe, supple tannins and serves to lengthen and freshen the long, licorice-tinged finish. While approachable now, it should drink well for at least another 15 years. This was my first visit to Spottswoode, an impeccably manicured and historic property on the western outskirts of St. Helena that dates back to 1882. The modern-day Spottswoode story dates back to 1972, when Mary and Jack Novak moved north from Southern California and purchased the house and 30 acres of adjacent property. Fifteen adjoining acres were added the following year, and planting grapevines commenced, taking place in 1973 and 1975. Today, there are 37.5 planted acres, mostly Cabernet Sauvignon.
