A collector since 2011, this consignor’s passion for wine was ignited after enjoying a bottle of Burgundy at a dinner in Paris. He purchased his wine on release through the LCBO and SAQ as well as from France and USA. All bottles were stored in a temperature and humidity-controlled cellar before coming to auction at Iron Gate.
The score for 2018 DRC Richebourg Grand Cru is 97 from Allen Meadows and the tasting note - This too is very restrained though a bit of swirling quickly coaxes the ultra-spicy and very ripe nose to reveal liqueur-like aromas of black cherry, raspberry and cassis that are trimmed in a beautiful array of spice elements. There is outstanding intensity to the concentrated big-bodied flavors that brim with both minerality and dry extract that confers a sappy texture to the mid-palate while also enrobing the very firm tannic spine shaping the superbly complex, powerful and massively long finish. This is a stunningly good young Richebourg with simply amazing potential that should amply repay long-term cellaring.
