A Toronto-based collector whose passion in wine ignited while dining frequently in the city's restaurants. He then married a woman from France and spent extended periods travelling around the country, tasting wines from all the top regions. All the wines except the magnum of port were bought directly from local importers or the LCBO. Everything was stored from purchase at the Vintage Conservatory in Toronto.
The score for 2019 Domaine J F Mugnier Chambolle Musigny is 92 from Robert Parker and the tasting note - Wafting from the glass with aromas of raspberries, plums, rose petals, orange rind and spices, Mugnier's 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Village is medium to full-bodied, velvety and textural, with a seamless core of fruit that entirely conceals its supple structuring tannins. Rich but vibrant, it's striking for its charm and sensuality. Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier was disconcerted, nay alarmed, by the early date of harvest in 2020, yet he said he has come to like the ensuing wines more and more as they evolve during their élevage. And indeed, by the time I visited in late October, the 2020s were showing brilliantly - deep, vibrant, and concentrated, they will give the sensual, demonstrative 2019s a run for their money, but in an entirely different stylistic register. If the 2019s will show well after only a few years (even if their ultimate potential will take longer to realize), the 2020s are more tightly wound and seem to me likely to have shut down. Two warm, dry vintages, in other words, have produced wines that are qualitatively similar but stylistic opposites
