In 1997 this collector was backpacking through Europe and shared a bottle of 1986 Ramonet Montrachet with a friend and his love of wine began. He started collecting and cellaring wine seriously around the year 2000 and currently has 700+ bottles, mainly old world. He gravitates to the classics of France, Italy and Germany as well as Port. All of the wine was purchased upon release from the LCBO and Ontario wine agents and stored in temperature-controlled wine cabinets. He is selling some of his standard format bottles to make room for recently purchased magnums.
The rating for 2019 Vietti Rocche di Castiglione Barolo DOCG is 99 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - For lovers of timeless Nebbiolo, the Vietti 2019 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione hits all its marks. Yes, Vietti makes beautiful Barolo from some of the best cru sites from across the appellation, but I confess a preference for this outstanding wine. Rocche di Castiglione has the home team advantage with vines located not too far from the winery that is nestled into the outer stone wall and urban fabric of the Castiglione Falletto village. This site is characterized by freshness, extreme precision (that always stands out), linearity, structure and balanced freshness. This naturally concentrated vintage also shows a juicy or succulent quality that is outstanding. Pretty mineral notes add to the balance and elegance. The vineyard site measures about one hectare. Rocche di Castiglione is an oddly shaped and elongated MGA with singular southeast exposures along a steep ravine, with Bussia to the west and Perno to the east.
The rating for 2019 Vietti Ravera Barolo is 98 points from Robert Parker and the tasting note - The 2019 Barolo Ravera is a wine of impact and power, and it is also a wine of the future. That's because Ravera (in the village of Novello) is one of the break-out sites that continues to awe and surprise despite a changing climate. Indeed, its high elevation and open panorama toward snow-capped mountains keeps the microclimate ventilated but also protected. Luca Currado affirms that Ravera is what Cannubi was just a few years ago. Wines from Novello also show an extraordinary but very unique evolution in which the tannic impact of the wine remains firm. This vintage shows deep intensity and good freshness. It fully covers the palate from front to back.
