A Toronto-based collector whose passion in wine ignited while dining frequently in the city's restaurants. He then married a woman from France and spent extended periods travelling around the country, tasting wines from all the top regions. All the wines except the magnum of port were bought directly from local importers or the LCBO. Everything was stored from purchase at the Vintage Conservatory in Toronto.
The score for 2020 Claude Dugat Gevrey Chambertin La Marie is 91-93 from Robert Parker and the tasting note - Richer and more layered than the domaine's regular Gevrey-Chambertin bottling, the rare 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin La Marie mingles aromas of cassis and plums with hints of smoke and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, deep and velvety, with fine, concentrated powdery tannins and lively acids, Bertrand Dugat observes that the wine's personality reminds him of his father Claude. The 2020 vintage is a terrific success at Domaine Claude Dugat, where an early harvest and low yields delivered wines characterized by moderate alcohol, vibrant flavors and striking intensity. More tightly wound and a touch less sensual than the singularly seductive 2019s, the 2020s are of very high quality and have the balance and energy to age with real grace. My visit to this domaine is invariably a highlight of my fall tastings, and this year was no exception. These wines couldn't come more warmly recommended.
